About the book
The novel is set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, four centuries before the animated series. A year after being identified as the Avatar, Kyoshi roams the Earth Kingdom and beyond, subduing petty criminals. She searches for her childhood friend Yun, who was wrongly named the Avatar and is presumed dead. She also tries to understand the pleas left by her predecessor, Kuruk. Fire Lord Zoryu then asks for her help. Famine grips the Fire Nation, and his ambitious half-brother Chaejin is exploiting the unrest to gather backing for a coup.
