About the book

The Motorcycle Diaries is a memoir by the Argentine revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara, published after his death. It recounts a journey begun in January 1952, when Guevara, then a medical student of twenty-three, sets out from Buenos Aires with Alberto Granado, a biochemist six years older. Riding a worn-out 1939 Norton nicknamed La Poderosa, the two want to see a South America they know only from books. Over roughly nine months, by motorcycle and many other means, they cross the Andes, a desert and the Amazon basin, and Guevara is changed by the social injustice he meets.
